An Interview w/ Cillie Barnes

What inspires your songwriting?

Short stories.

The most recent I’ve read thanks to my roommate Ana is called, “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. I’ve also been watching True Detective where they discuss “The Yellow King” which is taken from Robert W. Chambers. Yellow walls have always driven me mad, and I’m glad I’m not alone in this. I’m about to start writing now and there are yellow lily’s on the table in front of me. So all things yellow, currently. Minus that Coldplay song.

How were you ale to hone in on your own distinct style?

Still figuring it out.. I just do what feels right in the moment.

If you get collaborate with any musician (dead or alive), who would it be and why?

Bradley Nowell

What are you looking forward to in 2014?

Getting older, eating better, making better art, seeing the world, falling in love, planting a garden, buying goats.

Who are you listening to right now?

Right now, right now? Alex Ebert.

LA! Make sure to check out Cillie at the Satellite on Monday February 24! Free show.
