SXSW: Day 1 Recap 3.16.16

words and photos by Shabnam Ferdowsi

This is my first year at SXSW in Austin, TX and it's insane. I got lucky and found a band to hitch a ride with, so on Tuesday morning I met Smoke Season at their rehearsal studio in DTLA and we began our 22 hour drive across 2 states. We stopped a few times for food, gas and spontaneous photo shoots, but we drove straight to Austin to make sure the band got there in time for their first show.

We made it to ATX at 10am yesterday. I took a quick shower, loaded my day bag with my camera and all my chargers, and headed on to the streets of Downtown Austin for 13 hours. I saw 13 bands, met some cool people, handed out business cards, drank free beer, sweated  a lot and took 13 gigs of photos. I felt like I was dying but I was having too much fun to stop! From hanging out with Smoke Season for their set, wandering around alone trying to catch bands I'd never seen before, to ending the day with the We Found New Music showcase I was working, it was a great first day.

Here are some of my favorite photos I took:
