Echo Park Rising 2017 Day 3/4

photos and words by Shab Ferdowsi

EPR is one big party for the LA music scene. This year, Beating Lights didn't have a stage and my band wasn't playing, so I took the opportunity to head out with my camera and partake in the music scene as a photographer, which I haven't done in a while. It was way too much fun, woah.

Day 3 / bands captured: Ramonda Hammer + Metronohm + Small Forward + Yume

Day 4 bands captured: Velvet + WASI + Slugs + The band Ice Cream

RECAP: Official Echo Park Rising Showcase 2016

words and photos by Shab Ferdowsi

Last night was surreal. Beating Lights hit Echo Park Rising with an official stage at the Lost Knight on the second night of the fest this year. I still can't believe I was able to make it happen!

BL is still fairly new to the local scene. I threw the first backyard show in September 2014, but it really wasn't until January of this year when I began booking shows at venues, connecting with more bands around town, and putting myself out there that I began to become more involved with the scene. 2016 has been nothing short of thrilling so far, and to be able to celebrate where BL has come in just the past year with a stage at EPR was humbling.

For the bill, I gathered all the bands who've been giving their friendship (and time) back into Beating Lights in one form or another. Because that's why I do what I do! I strive to be able to support the artists I work with, hoping to give them a platform to share their art, connect with one another, make more friends, and eventually, expand their own communities for even more growth. In return, all I really ask for is friendship.

Last night the bands came hours earlier before their sets, and stayed passed their load-out times, to hang out, mingle, and support the community. It was SO Sweet to see it all happen. :)

Shoutout to my friends who killed the stage: WASI • Minimall • Super Whatevr • Royaljag •  Bedbugs • AudioMammal • The Knitts • Liv Slingerland • Outside Animals

Check out some photos from the night and listen to the playlist below!

Our next event is on Sunday September 4th in backyard in DTLA, 2-7pm, FREE, All ages, free ice cream, free beer, 6 bands, all kinds of fun.

More info here.

See you around town, friends!

xx

By day 3 of Echo Park Rising last weekend, I was dead beat. The streets were rather dead beat too: no mainstage acts, less venues, more heat. Nevertheless, it was a fine, fine day catching some rad bands.

Here are my (few) snaps of Quantum Keys, WASI and The New Electric Sound.

Day 2  of Echo Park Rising was fantastic. I ran into so many new and old friends, caught up with bands, handed out business cards and discovered new music. It was also really, really, really hot out there... but worth every drip of sweat.

Here are some photos I took of The Knitts, Winter, The Wild Reeds, Tambourines, Yoya and Paper Pilots

Echo Park Rising is one of my favorite weekends of the year. Echo Park becomes one huge block party, where you can roam from venue to venue, discovering new local bands, catching old favorites, running into friends, and celebrating all that makes the local eastside scene. This year was my first time really caring about it as I'm starting to care so much more about the local scene. I took my camera and headed to the Park for the whole weekend and it was such a blast! It's  so much more about the music, and I loved every moment spent connecting with new artists, saying Hey to old friends, and hopefully making new ones.

My first night, I caught Bird Dog and SWIMM at the Echoplex. So much energy and charisma from both bands I felt like I was at a house party, hanging out with my best friends, with these cool dudes who are playing their quirky, raw music for us.

Here are my favorite photos from their sets:
